About us

Transweb is a result of ANSO‘s project “Students for Transgender Inclusion”. ANSO started the project to educate young people about transgender issues. This site is a media resource database, containing information on transrelated media.

ANSO, Association of Nordic Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer Student Organizations is an organization working in the interest of LGBTQ students all over the Nordic region and also supporting other LGBTQ student organizations across Europe. It fights discrimination based on homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in universities and aims to increase the quality of higher education by fighting heteronormativity. ANSO supports local student organizations so they can both be safe places for LGBTQ students and be an important part of its local university community.

ANSO is currently running a one year-long project focused on transgender issues called “Students for Transgender Inclusion”. It is a pioneering initiative not only on Nordic but also in Europe level as such.

The project’s main goal is to provide LGBTQ student organizations with knowledge on transgender issues. By means of educational materials, such as information booklet, leaflets, posters, charts, movies, as well as lectures provided by experts in the field, ANSO is aiming at reducing an educational gap, which exists in the LGBTQ student movement concerning transgender issues, which are crucial for inclusion and equality within the movement and all societies.

The project consists of three parts i.e., one part was focused on preparing the educational material in print in cooperation with experts in transgender field.

The second part of the project led to dissemination of knowledge and using it in practise. To do that there was a five days-long conference organized with transgender theme in Århus, Denmark.

Both parts enumerated above would serve as preparation to organize the third, last part of the project i.e., Transgender Day of Remembrance, which is commemorated annually in November. Thanks to gained knowledge the participants will be able to prepare big events taking place in all member organizations (which would mean also in different Nordic countries). This would give visibility to the transgender themes and often would serve as eye-opener and breakthrough for many communities where transgender issues are neglected and pushed to the margins.
